I can hear it now – “Why on earth would I want to set up a teen blog?! I have to write all day at school. I certainly don’t wanna do it some more when I get home!” Yeah, yeah. You’re just saying that because you think blogging is all about writing and research and….like, homework kind of stuff. Well what if I told you you’re wrong? What if I told you you could have fun with a teen blog? What if I told you I’m an adult and I have fun with my adult blog? Then would you be quiet and listen to me?

OK, here’s the thing. A blog doesn’t have to be about history or science or art or something that you have to study. A blog can be about anything you want. In fact, a blog can be about nothing in particular, just whatever you feel like putting on the page that day. You can blog about what happened at school, or what the latest gossip is or what your mom cooked for dinner…It’s YOUR blog and you can tell the world whatever you want. :)

You can blog about your favorite rock stars or celebrities, your favorite sports team, the new Johnny Depp movie – which reminds me – have you seen it yet? I haven’t but I can’t wait to see Johnny on the big screen! And it’s in 3D!!!! I’ve already got the poster hanging right over my desk and even as the Mad Hatter he’s adorable!

But – I digress! And you’ll find that I do that a lot. Because…well, because this is a blog and although it’s only half my blog (I’m sharing it with someone…ssshhhhh) I can do whatever I want with my half!

Blogs Are Fun – Yeah, Facebook is fun, to, I know, I know. But Facebook is so….over! The only people who hang out on Facebook are the ones who aren’t smart enough to follow me and learn how to set up their OWN teen blog and they will NOT be the coolest kid in school anymore because by the time I get done with you, you WILL have the coolest blog at school and all your friends and those snotty little socials will think you RAWK!

Blogs Make You Famous - Check out this teen blog – Style Rookie by Tavi – The New Girl In Town. Tavi is my idol! She’s 13 and she’s been blogging since 2008 and she has thousands of people who hang on every word she says! Thousands of adult people! How cool is that?!

Tavi lives in Chicago and she blogs mostly about fashion. But she’s also only 13 so she blogs about friends and family and just plain teen stuff. But Tavi has developed such a following on her fashion blog that she gets tickets to New York Fashion Week, she goes to the fashion shows in Europe, designers send her free clothes all the time and she even has a contract now with Target. READ HER BLOG! She’s having a blast!

Now look at this teen blog – Spencer Tweedy’s Blog - This is Spencer and he’s one of Tavi’s friends. Spencer’s dad has a band and Spencer has his own band too. Spencer also has a ton of people, including adults, who read his blog everyday and wait, holding our breath the entire time, to see what he’s going to write about next.

Neither of these two teens has any formal writing experience, they had no idea what to do with a blog when they first started, they’re both having a lot of fun and they both even make money and get free stuff because of their blogs. You can have a blog even better than THEIRS because by the time I get done with you, you WILL have the coolest blog at school and all your friends and those snotty little socials will think you RAWK!

Blogs Are A Great Way To Socialize – I know you have a Facebook wall, OK?! And I know you’ve got Twitter and MySpace and all those other places that teens hang out on the Internet. But when you have a blog, it’s YOURS. You can do whatever you want and you can invite anyone you want to chat with you in the comments section. You can even make your blog private if you want to and only give the password to a few select friends, family members and Johnny Depp!

Blogs are educational – in a fun way! – I know, I said the “E” word but they are. You’ll learn all kinds of computer stuff when you start your teen blog and I’m going to teach you even more. You’ll also learn how to write better and when you get to high school and college, you’re going to need that. But still – your teen blog can be fun and you don’t have to worry about studying or research – unless you want to. You can tell THAT just by looking at Tavi and Spencer’s blogs.

A Blog Will Help You Get A Job – No matter what you write about, just the fact that you started a blog as a teen and you’ve kept it up through high school and college will look awesome on a resume. It shows potential employers that you have the ability to start a project and stick with it. It also shows them that you’re not afraid to learn new things.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to teach you how to start your teen blog and how to make your voice heard on the Internet above all the other chatter that’s out there in Cyberspace. So start thinking about a name for your blog. And make sure it’s a cool one.
